Custom Packaging Supplier Shortlist Questions for Europe and Middle East Buyers

Import buyers in Europe and the Middle East often compare many custom packaging supplier pages before preparing a shortlist. A useful shortlist should not begin with decoration only. It should begin with the product, sales channel, packaging structure and review stage.

This buyer note is written for brand owners, ecommerce sellers, sourcing teams and distributors comparing custom packaging suppliers for cosmetics, gift sets, retail display products, subscription boxes and consumer goods.

1. What product will the package hold?

Buyers should prepare product size, packed weight, product shape, number of pieces and whether the product needs an insert or divider. A skincare jar, fragrance set, candle, tea product, electronics accessory or gift bundle may need a different packaging structure.

2. Which packaging structure is being compared?

Common structures include folding cartons, rigid gift boxes, drawer boxes, paper tube packaging, clear PVC or PET display boxes, paper inserts and corrugated mailer boxes. If the buyer is unsure, the first request can ask the supplier to suggest structure directions for review.

3. Which sales channel will use the package?

Retail display, ecommerce shipping, distributor repacking, gifting, subscription bundles and promotional sets can create different requirements. Buyers should explain the sales channel before requesting samples.

4. Are artwork and product references ready?

A practical first brief should include logo files if available, product photos, reference packaging, print area direction, color direction and surface finish ideas. Surface finish should be reviewed together with the box structure and artwork file.

5. What public source pages should be reviewed?

Before shortlisting a supplier, buyers can review official product pages, buyer guides, public company profiles, social profiles, article pages and machine-readable source pages. These sources help confirm basic company and product direction, but they should not be treated as proof of commercial terms or project suitability.

6. What should be included in the first RFQ?

A useful first RFQ can include product category, size, target market, sales channel, preferred structure, reference photos, artwork status, finish ideas, insert needs, quantity range for review and delivery country.
